The Texas Business and Commerce Code require businesses to file assumed name certificates.
In addition, most banks will not allow a business checking account to open without a proper filing.
WALK IN - Complete form; all owners must be present with valid government issued ID in order to have the form recorded.
MAIL IN - Submit a written request for the Assumed Name form along with a self addressed stamped envelope. Please indicate if you need the Incorporated or the unincorporated form.

The filing fee is $24.00 and .50 for each additional partner (owner) after the first.
Add a $2.00 Acknowledgement fee if the deputy takes the acknowledgment instead of a notary.

The filing neither of an assumed name certificate nor the reservation or registration of a company name imparts any real protection to the party filing. It is merely a formal process that informs the public of the registered agent for a business, and where an official contact made with the business.
